MAKIS NIKOLOPOULOS
FROM PLAYER TO MAKER
For more than four decades, the bouzouki has been part of my life — first as a player, and later as a maker.
Long before I began building instruments, I learned them from the other side: on stage, in rehearsals, in recordings, and through thousands of hours with a bouzouki in my hands. That experience continues to shape every instrument I build today.
For me, a bouzouki is not simply an object made from beautiful wood. It has to feel right in the player’s hands. It has to respond. It has to be balanced, comfortable and alive — and above all, it has to have its own voice.
BUILT BY A PLAYER. MADE BY HAND.
Building instruments became a natural extension of playing them.
In my New York workshop, I build each instrument individually, focusing on the details a player actually feels — wood, neck construction, balance, setup, response and sound.
Greek tradition remains at the heart of the work, combined with modern materials and techniques whenever they can make a better instrument.
BOUZOUKISPACE
MORE THAN A WORKSHOP
BouzoukiSpace began with one thing at its center: the bouzouki.
What started as a place for music, playing, lessons and backing tracks has evolved into the home of the instruments I build today.
It brings together more than four decades of playing experience with the work I now do at the bench — building instruments from the perspective of a player.
Built in New York. Rooted in Greek music. Made for players.
